Bodhi Tree for iOS
Privacy Policy
Bodhi Tree does not collect personal data through the app, does not track you, and does not sell or share your data for advertising. Your practice data stays on your device unless you choose to turn on iCloud sync.
At a Glance
This policy explains those details in plain language. It applies to the Bodhi Tree iOS app and to support emails you choose to send us.
Information We Do Not Collect
Bodhi Tree does not collect the following through the app:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or other contact information
- Your physical location, IP address, or device advertising identifier
- Behavioral analytics, such as what screens you visit, how long you spend, or what you tap
- Advertising data, attribution data, or cross-app tracking data
- The content of your reflections, journal entries, bookmarks, reading progress, or meditation history
- Crash reports beyond Apple system diagnostics you may separately choose to share with developers in iOS Settings
The app does not send your practice data to a server we operate, because Bodhi Tree does not operate a server for user data.
Information Stored on Your Device
Bodhi Tree stores app data in the app sandbox on your device using Apple-provided storage and a local SQLite database. This can include:

| Bundled content | A local scripture database and app resources shipped with the app. These are not personal data. |
This data is included in your normal iOS device backup if you have iOS backups enabled. Deleting the app removes the local app sandbox from that device.
Optional iCloud Sync
If you turn on Sync across your devices in the app, a limited set of your local practice data is mirrored to your personal iCloud key-value store using Apple's NSUbiquitousKeyValueStore API.
- Synced items can include reflections, bookmarks, daily-practice progress, meditation settings and log, and scripture reading progress.
- That data is associated with your own iCloud account and can be read by your other devices signed in to the same Apple ID with Bodhi Tree installed.
- We do not operate the iCloud service and do not receive a copy of the synced data.
- Subscription state, purchase records, and temporary interface state are not synced by Bodhi Tree.
You can turn iCloud sync off inside the app. Turning it off stops future syncing from that device; data already stored in iCloud remains controlled by your Apple ID and iCloud settings.
Optional HealthKit Integration
If you grant permission, Bodhi Tree writes completed meditation sessions to Apple Health as Mindful Minutes using HKCategoryTypeIdentifierMindfulSession.
- The app only writes Mindful Minutes. It does not read health data from Apple Health.
- Apple Health data is managed by Apple on your device and through your Apple account settings.
- You can revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings under Health, Data Access & Devices.
Notifications
If you grant notification permission, Bodhi Tree schedules local notifications on your device. These may include a morning teaching, a midday Bell of Mindfulness, an evening reflection, a trial-ending reminder, and one-time reminders for Buddhist observances you have selected.
These notifications are scheduled with UNUserNotificationCenter. Bodhi Tree does not use a remote push notification server and does not receive a push token.
Subscriptions and Purchases
Bodhi Tree Premium is offered through Apple's StoreKit system.
- Apple processes purchases, trials, cancellations, billing, refunds, and payment information.
- We do not see your Apple ID, payment card, billing address, or individual purchase receipt inside our own systems.
- The app checks StoreKit entitlements on device so it knows whether Premium is active.
- Apple may provide developers with aggregated sales and payout reports through App Store Connect.
You can manage or cancel a subscription in iOS Settings under your Apple ID, Subscriptions, or by tapping Manage Subscription inside the app.
Support Emails
If you email forestoceanlife@gmail.com, we receive the email address you send from and any information you include in the message. We use that information only to respond to your request, investigate bugs, and improve support quality.
Please avoid sending sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for the support request. You can ask us to delete a support email thread by writing to the same address.
Network Use and External Links
The Bodhi Tree app does not contact a developer-operated backend in normal use. Network activity can occur when you explicitly choose an Apple service or external action, such as StoreKit purchases, iCloud sync, Apple Health permission flows, opening the privacy or support page, sending email, or opening a chant-reference link in Safari.
When you leave Bodhi Tree for Safari, Mail, Apple Settings, Apple Health, or an external website, the privacy practices of that service apply.
Children
Bodhi Tree is rated 4+ and is suitable for a broad audience, but it is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.
Third-Party Services and SDKs
The app uses GRDB.swift, an open-source SQLite library, for local database access. GRDB runs locally inside the app process and does not contact a server.
Bodhi Tree does not embed Firebase, Crashlytics, Sentry, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Segment, Meta/Facebook SDKs, advertising SDKs, or attribution SDKs.
Your Choices and Rights
- You can delete local app data by deleting specific items inside the app where available, or by deleting the app from your device.
- You can turn off optional permissions for notifications, HealthKit, and iCloud sync in the app or in iOS Settings.
- Because we do not hold a server copy of your in-app practice data, requests for access, correction, deletion, or portability of that data are handled on your own device and Apple account.
- If you sent us a support email, you can ask us to delete that support correspondence.
Changes to This Policy
If Bodhi Tree changes what data it handles, we will update this policy and change the effective date above. Material changes will also be reflected in the app or App Store metadata before they apply.
